Hardin County was created from the Northwest Territory by an act of the Ohio legislature in 1820. County commissioners agreed to name 40 acres of the county Kenton, after Simon Kenton, the famous frontiersman and Indian fighter. Today, Kenton offers several recreational facilities and parks, hunting, boating and sailing at Indian Lake, and opportunities for continuing education at several nearby colleges and universities.
